Pete and I met up in West Virginia on Friday night in order to run the New River Gorge the following day. We stopped by Brook Falls on the Upper New to get a bit of warm up for the gorge. Brook Falls is a nice ledge drop that creates a large curler feeding into a wave hole at the bottom.
That night we stayed in Fayetteville at a place called Cooter's Cabins. The experience was as interesting as the name suggests.
On June 16th (my birthday), Pete and I prepared for our trip down the gorge. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous for my first Class IV run. Once on the water and heading down the first rapid, the butterflies were subdued and the fun began. The day was filled with sweet lines and tons of play.

We stopped at Hook 99 for a quick break and snack. Of course, while Pete and I were there, we had to hike back up for a few more runs and some pics.

What a way to spend a birthday. The New River Gorge is definetely an exciting run and has a very friendly atmosphere. Some of the most exciting parts of the day consisted of watching the other rafters and kayakers bombing down the rapids. Looking forward to getting back on this one.
